National Seminar on “Arts Education and the Dimensions of Sustainable Development in the Algerian School”

The National Institute for Research in Education organised, on Sunday, 14 June 2026, a
national seminar entitled “Arts Education and the Dimensions of Sustainable Development in
the Algerian School”, bringing together university professors, researchers, inspectors, and
representatives of educational institutions from across the country.

The seminar opened with an address by the Director of the Institute, Professor Chawki
Djeddi, who highlighted the importance of arts education in fostering creativity and instilling
aesthetic and cultural values among learners. He also underscored its role in responding to
contemporary pedagogical developments and contributing to the achievement of sustainable
development goals.

The programme featured academic sessions and specialised workshops devoted to examining
the current state of arts education in Algerian schools and exploring prospects for its
development. Discussions also addressed the renewal of pedagogical approaches, the
development of artistic skills, and the integration of technology and artificial intelligence into
teaching and learning.

The event also featured an exhibition of artworks, offering participants the opportunity to
discover creative pieces that reflect the place of art within education and its role in fostering
aesthetic awareness among young people.

The seminar provided a valuable forum for the exchange of expertise and experiences. It
concluded with a reaffirmation of the importance of strengthening research and training in the
field of arts education and further consolidating its place within the educational system as a
key driver of creativity and development.
