The establishment of the National Institute for Research in Education dates back to 1962 with the passing of Decree No. 62-166 on December 31st of 1962, which originally designated the institute as the National Educational Institute. However, the institute underwent several transformations throughout its existence, the first of which occurred in 1968 with the passing of Ordinance No. 68-428 on July 9th, which resulted in the reorganization of the National Educational Institute.
In 1996, the name of the institute was changed to the National Institute for Research in Education, reflecting its focus on conducting research in the field of education. The institute operates under the supervision of a director general and is run by a board of directors. Additionally, it includes two committees for endorsing educational materials and providing support, as outlined in Executive Decree No. 96-72 of January 27, 1996, which superseded the provisions of Ordinance No. 68-428 from June 9, 1968.
In the year 2016, a significant turning point was reached for the National Institute for Research in Education with the implementation of Executive Decree No. 16-151, dated May 23rd. This decree transformed the institute into a public scientific and technological institution, marking a new era of scientific inquiry and technological progress within the realm of education. The Algerian government has distinguished the National Institute for Research in Education as a noteworthy and unparalleled venture in the field.
The successive leaders of the institute have exerted tireless efforts in executing the complex transformation procedures. The culmination of these efforts was marked on May 17, 2021, with the installation of 47 permanent researchers at the institute by the Minister of National Education, Mr. Ouajaout Mohamed, in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Abdel-Baqi Ben Zayan.
On June 8, 2021, Mr. Mohamed Ouajaout, the Minister of National Education, oversaw the establishment of the Scientific Council for Research in Education at the headquarters of the National Institute for Research in Education located in El Achour. The Director of the Institute and members of the Scientific Council were present for this event, which was part of the Minister’s supervision of the formal installation of research professors at the Institute on May 22, 2021.
