On December 5, 2024, the National Institute for Research in Education organized a training seminar for its permanent researchers. The event aimed to support innovative projects across four research divisions: Educational Technologies, Schools and Their Environment, Educational Governance, and Teaching, Didactics, and Pedagogical Innovation.
The seminar focused on the theme “Business Model Canvas (BMC): A Tool for Innovation”. During the opening, Professor Bernaoui Radia, Director of INRE, outlined the context and objectives of the training, emphasizing the importance of the BMC framework as a fundamental strategic tool for organizations seeking to innovate and evolve in dynamic environments. She highlighted that adopting this approach is essential for any institution aiming to renew itself and thrive in competitive settings.
The training was delivered by Dr. Samir Rouabhi, who provided an in-depth exploration of the BMC concept and its application in developing innovative business models. He began by defining a business model as the logic through which an organization creates, delivers, and captures value. The presentation underscored the need for a simple visualization and analysis tool, introducing the BMC framework.
Dr. Rouabhi elaborated on the nine key building blocks of the BMC:Customer Segments, Value Propositions, Channels, Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key Resources, Key Activities, Key Partnerships, Cost Structure.
He encouraged participants to form teams, brainstorm ideas, and develop their own business models using the BMC. He stressed the importance of evaluating models against criteria such as switching costs, recurring revenues, and growth potential.
The session concluded with an invitation for researchers to apply the BMC framework to their projects to enhance their structure and presentation among peers. Dr. Rouabhi highlighted the BMC’s effectiveness in navigating uncertainty and fostering innovation within projects.
At the end of the seminar, Professor Bernaoui Radia announced a series of future training sessions designed to assist researchers of INRE in developing their own innovative projects in the field of education.
